Career Fair 2009 - Jobs Galore at Marina
Bay Sands & Resorts World Sentosa

Singapore
With the current economic downturn in Singapore it came as no surprise to see
throngs of people at Education and Career Fair 2009 held at Suntec, March 5-8.
The good news: recruitment at Singapore’s IRs is continuing at unseen speeds!
Evidence of this was the thousands of vacancies up for grabs at the two biggest
private recruiters, and Career Fair 2009 biggest draw: Integrated Resort Marina
Bay Sands and Integrated Resort Resorts World at Sentosa.
The career fair was visited by an interesting mix of crowd. Many fearing
retrenchment during these difficult times preferred to remain on the safe side
and decided to visit Education and Career Fair 2009 to look at alternative
career options available to them. Others were keen to join the new casino
industry.

The Stampede for Application Forms at the Sands' Gaming Counter
Anticipating such massive turn-out, HR officers from the Marina Bay Sands had
bunkered themselves into the recruitment booth, handing out applications forms
to hundreds of eager job seekers over the counter. The Casino Gaming Counter was
visibly the busiest.
Contrary to MBS’s recruitment approach, things were slightly more on the relaxed
side at Resorts World at Sentosa’s booth. Resorts world at Sentosa keen on
giving job seekers that “One Big Happy Family?feel - information officers from
RWS nicely clad in red and black RWS T-shirts could be seen giving out
application forms while mingling with the crowds. There was also a purposely
built stage where members of the public could follow presentations on the
upcoming family resort on Sentosa.
RWS received a whopping 650 applications during the first hour of the start of
the fair and 20,000 by the end of the 3-day event!
The IRs are emailed an average 150++ online job applications per day. Going
through each and every application is no easy task. Applying for a position does
not guarantee job placement. Possessing past work experience in a certain field
does not guarantee a post in that very same field of work again. Having said
this, if you don’t hear back from the IRs, do not despair, your application is
kept in their database and if the right fit is found, you’ll be contacted.
Some examples: if you are a car mechanic you could well be considered for a
position at Universal Studios Singapore to work on the maintenance of many of
its rides. If you have previous experience working with VIPs you could be
considered for a position at MBS’s Paiza Club at the Casino. Work experience
under your belt with the Singapore Armed Forces or the Singapore Police Force?
You may be considered for a position in the IRs?Surveillance Operations. In
summary, the opportunities are endless.

Recruitment for positions within the casinos has begun. But remember, to be
considered for a position in a casino you will need to be ready for shift work.
We have recently received confirmation that no prior experience or training is
necessary to work as a casino croupier as training is provided by IR RWS in
Genting and by IR MBS in Singapore. There are a few pre-requisites worth
mentioning. You must pass the numeracy and color vision tests, possess a nice
personality, and be able to offer your players superior customer service. The
ones with some experience “may be?considered for the position of Pit
Supervisor.
Foreigners wishing to take up employment in a Singapore casino must remember
that IR Marina Bay Sands and IR Resorts World Sentosa will be recruiting
Singaporeans first. That said, if a particular skills set isn't well represented
in Singapore, your chances for employment as a foreigner with one of the IRs are
good.
