Genting International Corporation
&
Resorts World Sentosa Integrated Resort |
Resorts World Sentosa is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Genting
Singapore Public Limited Company (PLC), a leisure and gaming
company listed on the Singapore Exchange. Genting Singapore PLC
is part of the Genting Group, listed in Malaysia.
In 2006, Malaysia based Genting International emerged the winner in the second
Singapore casino project worth S$ 6 billion. Genting's vision for
an Integrated Resort as a large-scale family resort, got the Malaysian conglomerate the gold medal. Genting-International's integrated dome-and-block resort is designed by renowned New York architect, Michael Graves.
Among its proposals, Genting had laid out plans on the 49-ha Sentosa waterfront site for a casino complex with a total of 1,800 rooms, Universal Studios
Theme Parks and the world's largest aquarium and open entertainment areas. Genting touted the Sentosa casino project as being able to pull in 10 million visitors by 2015, generating an estimated S$15 billion in tourist receipts.
The estimated economic contribution of Genting's proposal will be about S$2.7 billion in value-added contribution to Singapore's GDP or about 0.8 per cent of the GDP and generate about 30,000 jobs throughout the economy in 2015.
Genting Bhd. is one of Malaysia's most powerful and respected corporate conglomerates and serves as a holding company for a variety of domestic and international businesses developed by the late Chinese-born tycoon Lim Goh Tong.
Genting's most well-known holding is its majority control of publicly traded Resorts World Bhd. Amongst other businesses under the Genting umbrella are the Awana resorts, a controlling stake in the world's leading cruise ship operator, large casino development projects around the world, the ownership of over 63,000 hectares of oil palm and other plantation property as well as ownership of paper & packaging, oil & gas, and power plant businesses.
Resorts World Sentosa has been designed by acclaimed architect
and product designer Michael Graves of Michael Graves &
Associates, working along with the Singaporean architecture firm
DP Architects. Here, the design reflects an iconic and tropical
family mega-resort delivering a cool and dry visitor experience.
Resorts World Sentosa is a collection of resorts within a
resort, incorporating an integrated dome-and-block design. In
addition, by creative use of landscaping, choice of materials
(such as wood and stone), as well as the extensive use of water,
this Integrated Resort will reflect a tropical island resort
feel.
All this, while keeping the essential idea of a theme park for
family filled fun. Not an easy task when you have six hotels in
six different zones-each with their own unique theme. Come
nighttime, the architectural features of all hotels are
highlighted through state-of-the-art lighting! The architecture
is such that it guarantees visitors a village-like festive
ambience.
RWS hired none other than world renowned architect Mr. Henry
Steed to design the resort's tropical landscape.
