Foreign casino staff - will Singapore need you?

As a foreigner wishing to take up employment in a Singapore casino, you must remember that both the Marina Bay Sands and Resorts World Sentosa, will be recruiting Singaporeans first. That said, There simply won't be enough experienced and talented Singaporeans applying for the thousands and thousands of jobs that will become available. This is because there isn't a casino in Singapore at the moment where local talent can gain experience in the art of dealing. Your chances as a foreigner of being hired is especially high when a particular skills set isn't well represented in Singapore. The magic question you should ask yourself is, what is it I can offer to one of the IRs, a Singaporean can't offer?

The two IR & Casinos are expected to be needing to fill 30,000 positions by 2015, with the Marina Bay Sands looking to fill around 10,000 positions by 2009.

The Marina Bay Sands and Resorts World at Sentosa are expecting their recruitment drive to gear up in the six months preceding the historic openings of their casinos in 2009 and 2010 respectively.

Additional exciting news for casino entry level jobs is that most can expect to earn up to fifty percent more compared to those in similar positions in the F&B industry in Singapore.

Furthermore, for casino entry level positions, for instance for that of a card dealer, job applicants will preferably have good O or N-levels, be good at mathematics, and speak very good English. They must be well groomed, presentable and have good people's skills. These skills are necessary because casino dealers are not only expected to attract players to their tables, but also to keep them in their seats for as long as possible, and at the same time ensure the players are having a fun time. Casinos nowadays look for dealers with good dealing skills, dealers with a nice, friendly personality and a good sense of humour. These personality traits are considered big pluses for the two casinos looking to recruit prospective dealers.

The best way to go about finding work in one of the casinos is to check the classifieds sections of Singapore newspapers, check IRs respective websites (see links below), contact the two IR's directly, and of course visit our homepage regularly. There is a 'latest jobs' section on this site with links to positions currently open at the IRs, so make sure you check regularly. Alternatively, visit our discussion forum here and ask your questions.

You can make an inquiry with the Singapore Ministry of Manpower www.mom.gov.sg - but bear in mind that MOM is NOT a job placement agency; nor is Singaporedice!

Once you have obtained a job offer from either the Marina Bay Sands IR or Resorts World at Sentosa IR you will need to apply for an appropriate Work Pass through your employer based on the criteria stipulated by the Ministry of Manpower.
