Adult Websites Holds Singapore Surfers Longer Than Gambling

A new study of Web surfing
habits in Singapore found that adult Web sites hold a better virtual hand
than Net gambling sites when it comes to holding the attention of Web users.
Internet measurement company NetValue said that Singaporean Web surfers
spend more time at adult sites than gambling sites. "Although the reach
across adults and gambling sites are somewhat similar, visitors on the
average spent more than five times longer at the adult sites," said Jack Loo,
manager of NetValue Singapore. NetValue figures show surfers spent an
average 12.5 minutes at gambling sites in March, while adult sites held
Internet users for 63.7 minutes during the same month.
The study estimates 32.7 percent of Singapore's Internet users visited
gambling Web sites in March, compared to 35.7 percent of the country's
Internet population surfing to adult sites. Loo noted a decrease in visits
to gambling sites between January and March, and also a decrease in the
amount of time spent logged onto Net casinos.
The top local gambling sites identified by NetValue are
singaporepools.com.sg, and iwin.com.
Singapore's adult-content Web site visitors are predominantly adult males
below the age of 25, NetValue said. Loo pointed out that the survey revealed
a decrease in the proportion of students visiting adult sites between
January and March.
